Decks and outdoor structures built for the East Bay hills and Lamorinda.

Built Once, Built Right, Built to last

Aron Ambrus Construction builds and repairs decks, pergolas, patio covers, retaining walls and siding. Based in Brentwood, working across the hills and the Tri-Valley.

We respond to every estimate request within 24 hours. Estimates are free on every project. Design, drawings and engineering are billed separately.

Where we work

We describe the service area in drive times rather than in miles, because in this part of the Bay Area a map is misleading — Mount Diablo, the Caldecott Tunnel and the bridges mean two towns the same distance apart on paper can be half an hour apart in practice. Blackhawk is fourteen miles from our base in a straight line and closer to an hour by road, because the mountain is in between.

What that means practically: we schedule estimate visits by area rather than promising to drop by, we respond to every request within 24 hours, and we are honest about which towns are an ordinary week and which are a planned trip.

The ledger is the part that matters

The deck ledger is the board that fastens the deck to the house. According to the American Wood Council, one of the primary reasons for deck collapses is the failure of nail-only connections between the deck and the primary structure. Collapses most often result from ledgers built with nails instead of properly installed bolts. Decks have collapsed this way with as few as one or two occupants present.

Since 2009, every edition of the International Residential Code has required half-inch bolts or lag screws for this connection. So a deck built before 2009 — or built without a permit since — may be nail-only.
